Most newspapers will accept submissions of approximately 250 words or less for their letters to the editor section. These are a great way to speak your piece and add another voice to the debate, and can be an important way to respond to media coverage – particularly when your perspective hasn’t been included in a story!

Remember: you don’t have a lot of words, so keep it brief and focus on a single argument. Be sure to write to media outlets large and small, from community newspapers to national newspapers.

Sign the letter with your name, city and state, email address and phone number. Editors verify the identity of letter writers. Refer to the article to which you are responding. Remember you have a voice. Express it!
